Shannon kicked off her campaign with a supporter rally on Tuesday, May 20, then hit the road to meet with local business owners to hear the impacts of the Gabe Evans-supported Trump Tariffs and rising costs.

Brighton Standard Blade: Westminster’s Shannon Bird announces bid for 8th Congressional District
Bird said Monday that she is running to halt attacks on American freedoms and the nation’s economy.
“I am running to protect what matters most – our democracy, our economy and our future.” She said she wants to undo the damage done by President Donald Trump and Evans, adding “I want to make sure every Coloradan is getting a fair shot.”
In an interview before her announcement, Bird highlighted her experience in the legislature passing laws to fully fund public schools for the first time in a decade, to ease new construction by reforming construction liability regulations, and to create new tax credits for higher education.
She said economic stability and cost of living will be keystones to her campaign — while also taking shots at Evans for, in her view, putting President Donald Trump’s agenda ahead of his constituents.
“The more I thought about the situation that we find ourselves in today, and watched what this administration is doing, with Gabe Evans’ support, one thing became clear to me: There’s going to be a time when people ask, ‘What did you do when Donald Trump came back into office for a second term?’ ” Bird said of her decision to run. “Especially in light of what he’s doing to our country, I know that I want to have the right answer.”
“We are living in extraordinary times,” Bird said, noting that Evans recently voted for a federal budget provision that Democrats and some analysts say could throw more than 100,000 Coloradans off of the Medicaid rolls over the next decade.
“I couldn’t sit back,” Bird said. “Not only do we need to defend the people of our state — for so many reasons, our economy and our freedoms and our future are under attack — but Donald Trump, again with the full support of the current 8th District representative, keeps making it harder for families like the one I grew up in just to get a fair shot.”

Bird said she decided to enter the race because Coloradans are getting squeezed by “rising costs and broken promises” from Evans and President Donald Trump.
“While Trump and Evans push an agenda that’s making lives harder, I’ve dedicated my career to fighting for hardworking Coloradans,” she said in a statement.
Bird said she’ll answer to Coloradans and not Trump.

“Shannon Bird is a local hero for her work on the JBC (Joint Budget Commission). The unbelievable job they did out of pulling a budget out of a virtually, a very small amount of money, relatively,” said FOX31 Political Analyst and Democratic strategist Andy Boian.
