MEET SHANNON

Shannon Bird is the current Colorado State Representative for House District 29, which includes the Adams County and Jefferson County side of Westminster and several large areas of unincorporated Adams County.  She has a lengthy record of public service in our community. She began as a volunteer in her children’s classrooms and eventually became the citizen chair for a school district bond campaign and co-founded the Adams 12 Community Action Network (Adams 12 CAN). Additionally, Shannon has served as a member of the Westminster City Council and was elected to the State House in 2018.

Shannon grew up in Reno, Nevada and was raised by her single mother and grandmother, who helped Shannon’s mom put a roof over their heads and food on the table  by working at local casinos as a blackjack dealer. Shannon’s roots fueled her passion for service to community and she proudly was the first in her family to graduate college going on to both graduate and law school through a combination of student loans, part-time and full-time jobs and grants that helped her to earn her degrees. Based upon her life experience, Shannon has made affordability a priority in all her work, from the cost of living to the cost of higher education.

In the 2024 legislative sessions, Representative Bird served as the Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee, and Chair of the Joint Budget Committee and reviewed legislation that, among other things, affects the state’s revenue and tax structure. She also has legislative oversight responsibility for PERA, the Department of Revenue, State Treasury, and the Office of State Planning and Budgeting.

Shannon resides in Westminster with her husband, two children, and cats all adopted from local animal shelters. Shannon enjoys exploring Colorado with her family in her free time, going sunflower picking at local farms, and enjoying the beautiful parks and open spaces in Westminster.
