Shannon Bird Officially Qualifies for Ballot
Volunteer-Powered Effort Results in One of the Fastest-Ever Qualifications in State History
Westminster, Colorado – Today, the Colorado Secretary of State certified that Shannon Bird has officially qualified for the ballot for the Eighth Congressional District, submitting 1,915 accepted signatures from CO-08 Democratic voters, eclipsing the 1,500 threshold.
Team Bird’s volunteer-powered signature effort marks one of the fastest-ever ballot access qualifications in state history. In January alone, the Bird campaign knocked over 10,000 doors and met voters in every corner of the community throughout all three counties.
“I’m tremendously grateful for every voter, volunteer, and member of our team who circulated and signed our petition,” Bird said. “Together, we’ll continue to show up in every corner of this district and elect a congresswoman who will champion our needs, not the wishes of the president.”
Bird’s grassroots momentum comes on the heels of her third strong fundraising quarter, with 87 percent of her dollars coming from Colorado, compared to less than 15 percent for her primary opponents. To date, Bird has secured over 195 endorsements – twice the primary field combined – including being the only labor-endorsed candidate in the race and one of the most labor-endorsed congressional candidates in the country.
About Shannon Bird
Shannon was raised by a single mom and her grandmother, who dealt blackjack in Reno, Nevada and used her tips to help Shannon get through college. They taught her how to work hard, give back and fight for what’s right.
With a passion for improving education for every student, Shannon started in public service by volunteering in her kids’ classrooms and co-founded an organization that empowers students, parents, teachers and communities to create more equitable local schools. She led a bond measure campaign for the Adams 12 district in 2014 to fix and improve local schools, leading to her serving on the Westminster City Council and then in the Colorado State House where she served for three years on the Joint Budget Committee.
Prior to serving in public office, Shannon worked in the private sector practicing law in the fields of public and commercial finance, helping to get large community projects like roads, bridges, schools and hospitals off the ground.
Shannon is committed to showing up for the people of Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, and working together to deliver real results for hardworking Coloradans and families – because that’s what she’s always done.
