Shannon Bird Releases Second Ad, “Choices”

Bird Expanded Medicaid; Rutinel Enacted Steep Medicaid Cuts While Raising His Own Pay

Westminster, Colorado – Today, the Shannon Bird for Congress campaign released its second ad of the campaign, “Choices.”

The ad highlights how Shannon Bird, the state’s most effective lawmaker, doesn’t just talk, but delivers real results: protecting abortion rights, expanding Medicaid, and getting dangerous guns off of our streets.

In stark contrast, just weeks ago, Manny Rutinel voted to gut Colorado’s Medicaid program and enact steep cuts to home health care – ripping away care in a congressional district where one in three residents relies on Medicaid. And he did so while voting to raise his own pay.

The stakes are clear: Colorado’s Eighth already has a congressman, Gabe Evans, who cuts Medicaid. Only Shannon Bird can be trusted to protect our health care and livelihoods. It’s no wonder Manny Rutinel is national Republicans’ favorite Democrat.

The ad is part of a six figure buy, starting today on digital platforms and this week on Denver broadcast. To date, the Bird campaign has outspent all opponents combined on TV.

The buy builds on Bird’s strong momentum, including being the polling leader and by far the most labor-endorsed candidate in the race and the only candidate with support from ag and doctors’ groups, as well as key endorsements from the NewDem Action Fund, Blue Dog PAC, WelcomePAC, The Bench, EMILYs List, Elect Democratic Women, and nearly 200 leaders across the district and state.

About Shannon Bird

Shannon was raised by a single mom and her grandmother, who dealt blackjack and used her tips to help Shannon get through college. They taught her how to work hard, give back and fight for what’s right.

With a passion for improving education for every student, Shannon started in public service by volunteering in her kids’ classrooms and co-founded an organization that empowers students, parents, teachers, and communities to create more equitable local schools. She led a bond measure campaign for the Adams 12 district in 2014 to fix and improve local schools, leading to her serving on the Westminster City Council and then in the Colorado State House, where she served for three years on the Joint Budget Committee.

Prior to serving in public office, Shannon worked in the private sector, practicing law in the fields of public and commercial finance, helping to get large community projects like roads, bridges, schools, and hospitals off the ground.

Shannon is committed to showing up for the people of Colorado’s 8th Congressional District, and working together to deliver real results for hardworking Coloradans and families – because that’s what she’s always done.

Her campaign has earned the endorsement of over 190 leaders in the district and across Colorado, as well as the International Association of Fire Fighters, the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters Association, Plumbers Local Union 3, ATU & ATU Local 1001, Heat & Frost Insulators Local 28, NALC Branch 642, SMART Locals 9 and 202, Pipefitters Local 208, Machinists Local 47, Laborers Local 720, IUEC Local 25, Farmers Union Rural PAC, Colorado Corn Growers Association, Elect Democratic Women, EMILYs List, Welcome PAC, The Bench, NewDem Action Fund, and Blue Dog PAC.
