Shannon Bird Thanks Coloradans, Announces Resignation from General Assembly Effective January 5

Bird to Become Only Full-Time Candidate in CO-08 Race

Westminster, Colorado – Today, Colorado State Representative Shannon Bird released the following statement:

“Thank you to my Westminster neighbors who have given me the great honor to be your representative in the General Assembly for the last seven years. Your trust and belief in me has meant the world. Together, we passed more than 300 bills – many of them bipartisan – to improve the lives of Coloradans. I’ll forever be proud of our shared work to fully fund Colorado public schools for the first time in 15 years, take on the big health insurance companies to remove red tape that delayed care for patients, make trade education and community college free for students from working class families, shore up pensions for first responders, build more homes middle class families can afford, crack down on auto theft, protect Coloradans’ rights and freedoms, and so much more.

“Now, Colorado is facing rising headwinds from Washington, with Trump’s tariffs driving up the cost of everything, healthcare and food assistance being ripped away by Gabe Evans and his GOP colleagues, and our democratic values under assault. The best way to protect my constituents from these threats and to lower costs is to do everything in my power to unseat Trump lackey Gabe Evans in the nation’s most competitive congressional seat.

“That is why, effective January 5, 2026, I will be stepping down from the General Assembly. With the upcoming legislative session beginning on January 14, the people of House District 29 deserve a representative who will be fully focused on legislative matters – and the voters of the Eighth Congressional District deserve a candidate who is able to put in the 70+ hours a week of work that it will take to flip this seat from red to blue.

“Together, we’ll flip this seat and restore leadership to Congress that answers to the people of Colorado, not the president.”

About Shannon Bird

Shannon was raised by a single mom and her grandmother, who dealt blackjack in Reno, Nevada and used her tips to help Shannon get through college. They taught her how to work hard, give back and fight for what’s right.
